A reading of scenes from Arthur Miller’s “Playing for Time” with a discussion to follow featuring the Violins of Hope, led by David Y. Chack, professor in Holocaust Theatre at DePaul University/Chicago and Artistic Director of ShPIeL-Performing Identity

“Playing for Time” is based on the memoir of Fania Fenelon, an orchestra member of the “Women’s Orchestra in Auschwitz” made up of mostly young female Jewish and Slavic prisoners, who played music regarded as helpful in the daily running of the camp and for propaganda purposes.
